Ebook About
In the summer of 1991 I was a normal kid. I did normal things. I had friends and a mother who loved me. I was just like you. Until the day my life was stolen. For eighteen years I was a prisoner. I was an object for someone to use and abuse. For eighteen years I was not allowed to speak my own name. I became a mother and was forced to be a sister. For eighteen years I survived an impossible situation. On August 26, 2009, I took my name back. My name is Jaycee Lee Dugard. I don’t think of myself as a victim. I survived.A Stolen Life is my story—in my own words, in my own way, exactly as I remember it.---The pine cone is a symbol that represents the seed of a new beginning for me. To help facilitate new beginnings, with the support of animal-assisted therapy, the J A Y C Foundation provides support and services for the timely treatment of families recovering from abduction and the aftermath of traumatic experiences—families like my own who need to learn how to heal. In addition, the J A Y C Foundation hopes to facilitate awareness in schools about the important need to care for one another. Our motto is “Just Ask Yourself to . . . Care!”A portion of my proceeds from this memoir will be donated to The J A Y C Foundation Inc.

Book A Stolen Life: A Memoir Review :

I can imagine this book took a lot of courage to write! So if I see one more review saying that it doesn't go into enough detail I will die! Also she had a only 5th grade education and was living in a backyard for 18 years so excuse her for not having the best grammar or writing skills. I personally liked that it was written in her own words. I felt I was hearing the story as told by 11 year old Jaycee. It makes me see her perspective on what happened through an 11 year old's eyes. If one is reading the book and actually comprehending what Jaycee talks about, animals were what kept her going. So if all she talks about is cats it's because that's all she had for so long.A few reviews claimed the book was repetitive, there are times that's true but instead of thinking of that negatively and bashing Jaycee's writing abilities, I see it as a recovering woman trying to piece together a story of 18 years of captivity. A story in which people begged and pried into her privacy just to get. This book also aided in her healing she wanted to write in her own words she explains why if you read the preface!!!!This book was a hard read but an excellent insight on Jaycee's perseverance, strength and her unbelievable ability to survive and overcome a horrific event. I never went into reading this book thinking it would contain superior grammar and writing style. I applaud her for sharing her story. (She also isn't a bad writer) I recommend this book for sure!
A lot of negative reviews from people saying this book is poorly written are shamefully missing the entire notion that Jaycee was only educated until a 5th grade level, so not even out of Elementary School yet. Plus, there was no way between her escape and the time she wrote this book to really become a fully functioning 29+ year old adult and become a best selling author. You can’t be picky and dramatic about her lack of ability to write at an “adult” level like one else would. Also, other people are claiming this book is boring. She was held in captivity for 18 years and used as nothing more than a rag doll for the first few for a sick man’s needs; also at the hands of his sick wife. Her days in that backyard were repetitive and depressing and she barely got to leave the house in all of those years. You can expect a pretty harrowing tale, but if you’re “bored” easily because it’s not filled with excitement or bursting with detail about the few outings she had, this book isn’t for you.I liked the book. Is it one of my absolute favorites? No. But I appreciate it. I appreciate Jaycee’s bravery in recanting her story for people like us to see. It’s raw, just as I’d expected. I saw that emotion on her 20/20 interview and when she mentioned this book I ordered it and I don’t regret it.
